And in an ideal world, the people you’re talking to will remember what you say.
Problem is, it’s very rarely an ideal world.
The rest of the networking group have already listened to a constant droll of 16 other pitches, most of which ran over the 60 seconds and consisted of buzzwords, jargon, overused phrases and had either a rushed or mumbled delivery.
The good news: you can stand out.
The bad news: your audience needs waking up first.
So how do you breathe life back into the room?
By being different…
Say something funny, bizarre, rhyming, or creative. Making people laugh will always leave an impression or ask them a quick question to get them engaged – the brain can’t handle not answering.
Be brief, but don’t rush. You need people to hear the words you say, so slow down the delivery.
People only need to know that they want to know more, so if you can intrigue and leave, you’re on to a winner.
